La Peñita Cemetery

La Peñita de Jaltemba, Nayarit, Mexico – 2019. I was in Mexico on a Habitat for Humanity Global Village build in El Monteón which is a small town located in the state of Nayarit, about 70km north of Puerto Vallarta and just a few miles from the tourist town of Rincón de Guayabitos were we stayed during and after the build. La Peñita de Jaltemba or simply La Peñita is a small beach town in Nayarit, Mexico. Someone mentioned to me that the cemetery in La Penita was an interesting place to visit and gave me instructions on how to get to it. The instructions weren’t very good but with the help of Google Maps and a bit of exploring I was able to find it. Parts of the cemetery are getting washed away by the sea, much of it is overgrown and many of the graves are in very poor shape.
A child’s grave. No headstone or markings, just a few blocks and a mound of sand and some plastic flowers. La Peñita Cemetery, Mexico
